Supported Decision-Making for Older Adults

ADvancing States is hosting a webinar, Supported Decision-Making for Older Adults. Join us as Rebekah Diller, Clinical Professor of Law at Cardozo School of Law, and Morgan Whitlatch, Legal Director at Quality Trust, discuss supported decision-making for older adults. The panelists will go over the basics of supported decision-making and provide practical examples on how to advance its use in the lives of for older adults. Tools and tips from this webinar can help older adults in care planning.

Rebekah Diller is a Clinical Professor of Law at the Cardozo School of Law. Ms. Diller co-directs the Bet Tzedek Civil Litigation Clinic, which represents older adults and persons with disabilities in a range of civil matters, including alternatives to guardianship, restoration of rights for people under guardianship, public benefits, consumer, and disability discrimination cases. Prior to joining Cardozo, Diller was Deputy Director of the Justice Program at the Brennan Center at New York University, where she spearheaded research, advocacy and litigation to expand access to justice for low-income families, and an attorney at the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Morgan K. Whitlatch is the Legal Director of Quality Trust and the Lead Project Director of the National Resource Center for Supported Decision-Making.  Ms. Whitlatch has dedicated her legal career to working with and on behalf of people with disabilities, including older adults, in matters involving guardianship, capacity, and the right to self-determination; community integration; living life free from abuse and neglect; and accessing public benefits and services. Under her leadership, Quality Trust represented the first DC senior to have her guardianship terminated in favor of Supported Decision-Making. Prior to joining Quality Trust in 2009, Morgan was an attorney at the Rhode Island Disability Law Center, which is the state’s protection and advocacy system for people with disabilities.
