Understanding and Fighting the Grandparent Scam: What Aging Network Professionals Should Know to Empower Older Adults

Event Description: 

Grandparent scam perpetrators falsely state that a grandchild is in trouble with the law, sick, or injured and in need of an immediate transfer of a large sum of money to prevent dire harm to the grandchild. In this webinar, aging services professionals will learn:

  • how to identify this fraud and empower grandparents to resist this scam,
  • how to partner with law enforcement to go after scammers, and
  • how to support and enable those who have experienced this scam to recover from their losses and regain their agency.

 

The Voices of People with Disabilities and Older Adults - Strengthening Advocacy in the HCBS Settings Rule

ACL is hosting this webinar to provide participants with an opportunity to learn when and how to invite and/or provide feedback on state efforts to comply with the HCBS Settings rule. Presenters will share key dates, strategies, and examples of how powerful the voices of people with lived experience can be in creating more opportunities for choice and control in service delivery, and advancing the quality of services.

Combating Food Insecurity with Collaboration

Event Description: 
The Office of Nutrition and Health Promotion Programs (ONHPP) will host a webinar on combating food insecurity with collaboration among community stakeholders. Attendees will learn how food insecurity affects older adults, how federal programs – including ACL’s National Senior Nutrition Program – are addressing food insecurity in communities, and how to identify and engage potential collaborators among community stakeholders to ensure older adults can access nutritious foods.

    Upcoming Meeting of the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities

    Event Description: 
    The President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID) will host a virtual meeting for its members to identify emerging topics to examine in the Committee's Report to the President. All the PCPID meetings are open to the public. Comments and suggestions from people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are strongly encouraged.
     
    This meeting with be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.
     

    Introductory Webinar to the Behavioral Health Guide: Considerations for Best Practices for Children, Youth, and Adults with TBI

    Event Description: 
    This webinar will discuss ACL's Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Technical Assistance and Resource Center’s (TARC) Behavioral Health Guide designed to provide state brain injury professionals with the tools to partner with their state behavioral health entities and improve outcomes for this population. During this webinar the authors will provide an overview of the guide and answer questions about applying the tools and strategies identified within a state system.

    Virtual Site Visit: Celebrating Older Americans Month

    Event Description: 
    May is Older Americans Month and Community Action Awareness Month. To honor both of these observances, ACL is partnering with ACF's Office of Community Services (OCS) on a virtual site visit to ACL-network provider, North Central Idaho Area Agency on Aging (AAA). The purpose of the virtual visit is to explore the shared goals of the aging network and community services network.
