Where Would You Turn for Help? Older Adults’ Awareness of Community Health and Support Services for Dementia Care - Journal Article

Most literature focuses on long-term services and support utilization rather than awareness. This Canadian study used a series of 12 vignettes to describe common situations faced by older adults for which community support services (CSSs) might be appropriate. The findings showed that awareness of CSSs is much lower than previously thought, and that the most important sources of information were information and referral sources, the telephone book, doctors’ offices, and word of mouth.

ElderCare Locator – Enhanced Website

A newly enhanced, person-centered call center that will serve as a link to information and services for older adults and caregivers across the United States has been introduced. Callers will speak with an Information Specialist who will help connect them to a local agency in their area for information and assistance. The service also features a newly re-designed website for boomers and older adults.

Disability Benefits 101 (DB 101) – Online Resource

DB101 provides online tools, resources and information on health coverage, work and benefits for people with disabilities and those supporting them. Four states (California, Minnesota, Michigan and New Jersey) have their own sites, which include benefits calculators to help individuals understand how a job may affect total income and health coverage, or whether they may qualify for specific state programs. The resource is a product of the Employment and Disability Benefits Initiative.

Supporting the Supervisor: Helpful Information for Information & Assistance Supervisors - Toolkit

The information and assistance (I&A) service is a cornerstone of the ADRC. This guide provides tools that I&A supervisors can use to cultivate, mentor and maintain a top-notch team of professionals. It incorporates tools developed and used by two ADRC’s in Wisconsin, and includes tools for recruitment and hiring, ongoing communication, training, and performance feedback and appraisal. Michigan Profile of Publicly-Funded Long-Term Care Services

Ten grants were awarded to states to develop a profile of the publicly funded LTC system and to assist CMS to develop national benchmarks that will be used to measure the degree and success of states' efforts to offer community based LTC services. Review Michigan’s report which focuses on the priority population of the elderly and adults with physical disabilities, but also includes systems that serve adults with developmental disabilities, adults with mental illness and children.
