Essentials of Housing Teleconference - March 2006

Essentials of Housing Teleconference was held with Guest Person, Stephen Gold, regarding a systems change strategy to provide training with regards to the largest housing programs in the nation with a focus on recipients of SSI. These included: 1) low-income housing tax credit program, with nearly $600 billion available annually for units, and 2) the HOME Partnership program, with $1.4 billion available annually. Personal Assist Recruitment Video

This video was produced & directed by the Connecticut C-PASS grantee, UCONN Center on Disabilities, with assistance from consumers & PCAs participating in various HCBS waiver programs. Included are perspectives from individuals & family members representing various disabilities & ages, explaining why personal assistants are important parts of their daily lives, & why being a personal assistant can be a challenging and rewarding career. Medicare and Medicaid Turn 40 Webcast

This event sponsored by the Kaiser Family Foundation and The Commonwealth Fund gathered former Medicare and Medicaid and other health policy experts to mark the 40th anniversary of these two health care programs. Also shown at the briefing was a new documentary, Medicare and Medicaid at 40, about the history, politics and impact of Medicare and Medicaid that included perspectives from people involved in the original 1965 debate and implementation of the programs.

Children with Special Health Care Needs Media Campaign

The Children with Special Health Care Needs programs of Nevada assists children with special needs and their families through a variety of health and support services. The Real Choice Systems Change Project has partnered with the Nevada Broadcasters Association to air the various media information on Nevada's television and radio stations. They also host a website with links to support, advocacy, assistance and education.

You Have a Choice! DVD in four formats: standard, with English subtitles, with Spanish subtitles, and audio described. The video is excellent for informing consumers about their options to leave a nursing home and to educate nursing home staff, family members and the general public about the option of transition. CMS/HRSA Joint Family to Family Grantees Teleconference

This teleconference was held to allow Family to Family grantees share their expertise and areas of concern. The goal was to learn from the experiences of other grantees. Agenda topics included collaborating with other organizations on webpages, and 211 information lines, how to handle hotline calls in an efficient, yet empathetic manner, and how to effectively collect and use family stories.
