Article: Medicare Can Leverage Home-Based Care To Optimize Value For Homebound Beneficiaries

Article Publication Date
Summary
Health Affairs has published an article discussing strategies and challenges for advancing value-based care within the Medicare system, including both traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

By 2030, 20% of Americans will be 65 or older and eligible for Medicare. In the same time period, about 60% of Medicare beneficiaries will be covered by Medicare Advantage. This growth coincides with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ goal to have 100% of traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage in accountable relationships.

However, challenges remain in achieving this goal. The authors of this article emphasize the importance of identifying key patient populations to ensure right-size costs and reduce spending associated with avoidable utilization.
