Medicare Fraud Prevention Week

Summary
Medicare Fraud Prevention Week focuses on actions everyone can take to prevent Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. Medicare Fraud Prevention Week is hosted by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) and takes place the week of June 5th. The SMP is a national program that educates Medicare beneficiaries about Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. The most effective way to stop Medicare fraud is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Learning how to prevent it and then sharing what is learned with others is how Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, family members, partners, professionals, and the whole community can participate. The SMP website features information and resources on ways individuals and SMP partners can participate in Medicare Fraud Prevention Week. Additionally, SMP released a new mobile app, “SMP Medicare Tracker”, that educates users about fraud trends through games and news and includes a digital appointment tracker that can be used to note what happens during medical appointments and compare to their Medicare statements.
