Study: Associations Between Nurse Staffing Levels and Readmissions for Patients With Intellectual and Developmental Disability

Article Publication Date
Summary
Researchers from the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania recently published the article, “Associations Between Nurse Staffing Levels and 30- and 60-Day Readmissions for Acute Care Patients With Intellectual and Developmental Disability.”

This study tested the association between nurse staffing levels and readmission rates for patients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). Findings showed that better nurse staffing levels were associated with lower odds of 30- and 60-day readmission for patients with IDD. Implications of these findings could support ways to improve outcomes for patients with IDD, who often require intensive nursing care.
