Article Publication Date
Summary
According to KFF, a nonprofit health policy research, polling, and news organization, the 2026 premiums for stand-alone Medicare Part D plans have decreased in many states; however, the number of available plans will be lower than in 2025. The analysis provides a preliminary examination of trends in premiums and plan offerings in the market for Part D stand-alone prescription drug plans for 2026, based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

A separate new KFF analysis provides an overview of the current Medicare Part D program, plan availability, enrollment, and spending and financing, based on data from CMS and other sources. For example, in 2026, beneficiaries in each state will have a choice of between 8 and 12 Medicare Part D stand-alone prescription drug plans, plus many Medicare Advantage drug plans. It also provides an overview of changes to the Part D benefit based on provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act.
