Annual Report on Centers for Independent Living - Program Year 2019

ACL recently released the Annual Report on Centers for Independent Living for program year (PY) 2019. CILs offer support for individuals with disabilities who want to live independently in their communities. The CIL program provides financial assistance to local CILs and other CBOs. This annual report includes data from CIL annual program performance reports, federal program staff oversight and compliance activities and publicly available information on grantee websites between 9/30/18 - 9/29/19

Community Integration: A Holistic Approach to the New Core Services for Transition & Diversion

This training addressed the new core services for centers for independent living as a natural extension of the Independent Living philosophy. Assisting people to move out of institutions – or staying out of them in the first place – is some of the most important and impactful work that CILs do. The CIL-NET organized this interactive workshop in Atlanta to help figure it all out together – as a community. The presenters provided a great deal of information and real-world guidance.

Using Consumer Satisfaction Information for Planning

This training from the Independent Living Research Utilization Program (ILRU) provides information on how you can gather feedback and input directly from consumers in your state to improve Independent Living programs. The presentation includes information about methods to gather and analyze data. Part 1 is about gathering information and part 2 is about implementing improvements.

National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research

On Wednesday, May 11, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) published a final rule that implements the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014 transfer of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) from the Department of Education to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The final regulations will remain in effect until Friday, July 1, 2016.

Policy and Research Needs to Maximize Independence and Support Community Living: Workshop Summary

On October 6, 2015, a public workshop was convened by the Institute of Medicine and the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education to learn about the supports that are needed for community living and maximizing independence. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine published a summary of the workshop that includes the policy and research that is needed to support independent living in the community.
