2023 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures is a statistical resource for U.S. data related to Alzheimer’s disease, the most common cause of dementia. Background and context for interpretation of the data are contained in the Overview. Additional sections address prevalence, mortality and morbidity, caregiving, the dementia care workforce, and the use and costs of health care and services. The Special Report examines obstacles and opportunities for achieving better care in an era of new treatments for Alzheimer’s.

Dementia Capable Systems and Dementia Friendly Communities

The Alzheimer's Association has released this free online module on their website. This module will define dementia capable systems and dementia friendly communities. Then, it explores the role of public health and communities in contributing to dementia capable systems through support services and programs, workforce training, and dementia friendly communities. It will also cover support services available for people with dementia and their caregivers.

The Alzheimer's Association has published the 2019 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report. This annual report offers insight into the burden of Alzheimer's and dementia on individuals, caregivers, government and the nation's health care system. The report provides an in-depth look at the latest national statistics on Alzheimer's prevalence, incidence, mortality, and costs. It also examines awareness, attitudes, and utilization of cognitive assessments among older adults.

2017 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures

The Alzheimer's Association has released a report that offers insights into the burden of Alzheimer's disease. Currently, total costs of care for individuals with Alzheimer's and other dementias reached $259 billion this year. This, coupled with the fact that the number of Americans passing away from Alzheimer's is anticipated to double by the year 2050, means that an increasing amount of health care dollars will be used to pay for care for these individuals.

Report on Milestones for Care and Support under the U.S. National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease

The Alzheimer's Association convened the Alzheimer's Association National Plan Care Support Milestone Workgroup, including experts in clinical care, long-term services and supports, dementia care, and support research, and public policy. The workgroup reviewed the current literature regarding Alzheimer's support and care in the U.S. and on a global scale, and developed several milestones to help create a better care and support system.

Medicaid Eligibility Criteria for Long Term Care Services: Access for People with Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias

This public policy issue brief from the Alzheimer’s Association describes functional eligibility issues for people with dementia and discusses how six states determine eligibility for Medicaid-funded long-term care services. Based on an analysis of these states provisions, the paper makes recommendations for appropriately assessing the long-term care needs of people with dementia, and for setting level-of-care criteria that treat people with physical and cognitive impairments equitably.
