Medicaid Expenditures for Long Term Services and Supports in FY 2013

The annual Medicaid Long Term Services and Supports expenditure report for FY 2013 is now available. The report includes Medicaid expenditures for all LTSS, including institutional and non-institutional settings, by service category and state. This year’s report shows that home and community-based services composed a majority of LTSS spending. Additionally, it explains the changes, summarizes the data, and describes national trends. There is also an infographic depicting the data from 2013.

Care Coordination in Managed Long Term Services and Supports

The AARP Public Policy Institute released a new report conducted by Truven Health Analytics. The two part study examined Medicaid Managed Long Term Services and Supports program contracts in 18 different states for older adults and people with physical disabilities and case studies of new care coordination models in Ohio and Illinois. The findings indicate that states need care coordination and that these care coordinators provide crucial support for consumers and their family caregivers.

How Many Medicaid Beneficiaries Receive Long-Term Services and Supports?

This report is a comprehensive account of the number of individuals in each state who received Medicaid-funded LTSS in calendar year 2010 based on the Medicaid Analytic eXtract (MAX). The MAX data source is a set of Medicaid administrative data files designed to facilitate Medicaid research. The report identifies the number of people by population group who received institutional and non-institutional services. With some exceptions, State and national data are included.

Transitioning Long Term Services and Supports Providers Into Managed Care Programs

This paper identifies the concerns and considerations in transitioning traditional LTSS providers from fee-to-service models to a managed care program.The findings of the study are based on qualitative interviews conducted with a variety of stakeholders, including state Medicaid program officials, representatives from managed care companies, LTSS providers, LTSS provider associations, and private consultants.

These materials are from the national conference sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and held in Nashville on May 2-3, 2002. The goal of the conference was to provide an opportunity for information exchange among decision-makers in the design and implementation of quality management/improvement. Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver Expenditures: 2011 Update

This report is the latest in a series on expenditures for Medicaid waivers authorized under Section 1915(c) of the Social Security Act, also known as home and community-based services waivers. For the first time, the tables include state-reported data for 1915(c) waiver services provided through managed care programs that are not identifiable in the state CMS 64 reports. Thomson Reuters collected these data for FY 2008 and FY 2009.
