Article: Trends in Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program Funding and Its Relationship to Nursing Home Resident Care
Article Publication Date
Summary
The Milbank Memorial Fund has released a new article in The Milbank Quarterly examining if an increase in state Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOPs) funding is associated with improved care in nursing homes.
LTCOPs are partially funded by the Older Americans Act and serve an important role in advocating for older adults in long-term care facilities. Using data from the National Ombudsman Reporting System and other nationwide sources, researchers found that states which have increased funding for their LTCOPs have observed better nursing home resident care over the last two decades.
