The I&R Support Center hosts webinars on a regular basis with I&R Specialists concerning topics of interest to those who work in the field of aging and disability Information and Referral/Assistance. Webinars are recorded and are available for on-demand viewing at no cost on ADvancing States IQ, our online learning center. VA System of Care

This webinar discussed resources for caregivers of veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Caregiver Support Program offers a menu of services to support family members and friends who care for Veterans at home and in their communities. The VA Caregiver Support Line is a national call center staffed by licensed social workers, who provide information and assist caregivers and Veterans in accessing services and supports through the VA. Our presenter was Christy Reynolds, LMSW, Program Coordinator with the VA Caregiver Support Line.

National Volunteer Caregiving Network

This webinar discussed volunteer caregiving programs that help promote the health, well-being and independence of older adults and people with disabilities. This webinar, which reprised an AIRS conference workshop, taught participants how to identify the contact for the nearest volunteer caregiving program in their area; understand the types of services available through Volunteer Caregiving; and make appropriate referrals to their local volunteer caregiving organization. Our presenters were Tammy Glenn, Acting Executive Director and Vice President for the National Volunteer Caregiving Network (NVCN), Jim Archer, NVCN Trustee, and Paula Marrone-Reese, National LEAD Ambassador.

Retirement Issues and Referrals: Resources for I&R/A Providers

This webinar discussed retirement issues and referrals. This webinar covered the basics of retirement plans, common issues experienced by retirees and family members, resources that promote retirement security, and referrals for pension counseling and help. Assistive Technology Act Programs: Improving Access to AT for People of All Ages

Assistive Technology Act Programs increase access to, and acquisition of, assistive technology (AT) devices and services for individuals with disabilities and older adults. Programs support a continuum of AT services, from public awareness and information and assistance to loans and reuse programs. This webinar discussed the Assistive Technology Act, state programs and services, and ways that AT can be useful to individuals across the lifespan.

The Role of Home Modification in Promoting Aging in Place and Community

As part of an Administration for Community Living (ACL)-funded project focused on home modification, ADvancing States and the University of Southern California (USC) Leonard Davis School of Gerontology hosted this webinar on the role of the home in promoting aging in place and community. During this event, presenters reviewed the fundamentals of home modification, explained different types of agencies and funding sources that offer home modification services, and covered practical skills to use when an older adult or caregiver needs to address fall and safety hazards in the home.
