Politico is hosting a conversation about the military caregiver experience and the challenges that military caregivers face in getting support. This discussion will explore policies and procedures that could help improve the military caregiver experience. This event will take place on Thursday, October 17 in Washington, DC.

Public Meeting - RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council

Event Description: 

The Administration for Community Living has announced the first meetings of the advisory councils established by the Recognize, Assist, Include, Support and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act and the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (SGRG) Act. The RAISE Family Caregiving Advisory Council is responsible for providing recommendations on effective models of family caregiving and support to family caregivers, as well as improving coordination across federal government programs.

2019 Retirement and Disability Research Consortium Meeting

Event Description: 

The Social Security Administration’s Retirement and Disability Research Consortium (RDRC) is holding their annual meeting highlighting current consortia research projects funded by the administration. Participants can attend the meeting in person or via live stream.

Demystifying Social Security: 2019 Summer Academy for Interns and Young Professionals

Event Description: 

The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) is hosting a day-long seminar for interns, students, and young professionals to learn about the basics of Social Security. Attendees will learn about Social Security’s structure and financing, factors that impact adequacy of benefits, and why Social Security is relevant for younger generations. Seminar attendees will also discuss policy proposal and participate in a workshop to develop a solution for Social Security’s solvency and benefit adequacy.

Stand for Quality - Capitol Hill Day

Event Description: 

Consumer Voice is hosting its first-ever summer Hill Day this year on July 18. Participants will meet with members of Congress and advocate for better quality care and quality of life for nursing home residents and other long-term care consumers. Consumer Voice will provide briefs, talking points, and other information to help participants deliver a strong message and share their concerns on topics, such as preserving the revised federal nursing home regulations and increasing funding for the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.

Elder Justice Training

The Nebraska State Unit on Aging is co-sponsoring a training for professionals in the aging network in collaboration with AARP Nebraska, University of Nebraska Omaha Department of Gerontology, Creighton University School of Law, Nebraska Bankers Association, and Legal Aid of Nebraska.

LTQA 2019 Forum Promising Solutions for the LTSS Workforce

Event Description: 

According to a report from the ADvancing States MLTSS Institute, “By 2050, 20% of the total U.S. population will be 65 or older...The number of people age 85 or older will grow the fastest over the next few decades, constituting 4% of the population by 2050, or ten times its share in 1950." The likelihood of a person needing support with ADLs increases with age. An estimated one-third of individuals age 65 or older have some kind of functional limitation. By age 85, two-thirds will have functional limitations.” How will we accommodate for the growing aging population?

Town Hall Meeting and Training

Event Description: 

The U.S. Access Board is hosting a town hall meeting on May 21 in Indianapolis to provide an open forum to allow people pose questions to the Board or share comments or concerns about accessibility for people with disabilities. There also will be panel discussions with area speakers on accessible recreation and outdoor environments, the Indiana AgrAbility Project, and local compliance initiatives under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
