APS TARC Webinar: Using AI to Predict Adult Maltreatment

Event Description:

Adult Protective Services (APS) agencies are collecting and reporting more and more data on adult maltreatment, yet very little research has been done to explore how this data could inform predictive risk factors associated with maltreatment. Join our Adult Protective Services Technical Assistance Resource Center for a webinar describing the purpose and results of an ACL-funded research project to assess how artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other “big data” tools could help identify individuals who are at increased risk for abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

The webinar will include:

  • Results from a literature review on risk and protective factors.
  • A scan of how related fields (e.g., child welfare, healthcare, and criminal justice) use machine learning and predictive analytics.
  • The methodology and results of the machine learning predictive analytic approach to identify locations with a high incidence of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Implications for research, policy, and practice and reflection on the long-term and short-term future goals of early identification and prevention of adult maltreatment.

Webinar speakers include

  • Nicole Fettig, PhD, Research Manager/Subject Matter Expert, APS TARC, WRMA, Inc, a TriMetrix Company
  • Karl Urban, MPA,  Senior Research Manager, APS TARC, WRMA Inc, a TriMetrix Company
