Strategies for Reaching Older Adults Through Remote Legal Services Delivery

Event Description:

The COVID-19 pandemic, along with other natural disasters and emergencies, has created additional barriers for older adults to access legal assistance. Over the past year, attorneys and advocates have deployed creative models to address the barriers associated with providing in-person legal services. This webcast will highlight promising practices from legal assistance providers, including an elder law phone clinic and a virtual medical-legal partnership. Presenters will share details on staffing, supplies, and strategies used to implement their models and will discuss how these practices might continue to be utilized beyond the pandemic to serve individuals with the greatest economic or social need.

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify opportunities to address barriers to legal service delivery;

  • Understand what is needed to implement the models shared; and

  • Determine how these delivery models might be used beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

Presenters:

  •  Dave Ballard, Alaska Legal Services Corporation

  •  Sarah Galvan, Justice in Aging

  •  Manohar Sukumar, Public Law Center
